About us

Chris and Theresa have lived at Deviock Barns since April 2002. Chris had farmed all his life on another farm in the village and Theresa was and infant school teacher with a life long passion for animals and self-sufficiency.

The idea was to convert the dilapidated traditional farm buildings to make a family home plus three holiday cottages. Along the way they bought a bit more land and Theresa’s love of animals and Chris’s expertise  enabled them to start running a small traditional farm. Over the past ten years they built up a herd of North ~Devon cattle, a breed suited to the Cornish climate which thrives on home grown hay and lush summer pasture.  The emphasis now is moving towards another native breed…Devon Cornwall Longwool sheep.

You will also find a friendly family of donkeys who love to be groomed and the more sensible ones enjoy going for a walk on a lead rein! there are also dogs, cats, horses, hens and ducks, and the latest project to be started is goats, with a plan to produce milk and cheese for home consumption (you can read more about this on our news page).

The farm is enjoyed and supported by a growing family. In May 2015 Theresa’s eldest son Fin married Hannah on farm. With their joint interest in farming, foraging and being outdoors, they plan to move back to Cornwall in 2016 to start their own family. They will be getting stuck in to renovating some exciting new glamping options at Deviock, so watch this space…

Isabel and her boyfriend Tom are still occasionally found on the farm helping with the animals or out on the bike trails in Cardinham woods. Josephine and her boyfriend Louis are based in London but enjoy get-away trips back to Cornwall for their fix of the Cornish countryside, coast and a proper cream tea! With their joint design skills and web knowledge they have helped us build this wonderful site and continue to help us keep-up with this new online venture!

We look forward to welcoming you to the farm, and would be very happy to share our top tips and recommendations for places to visit, including our favourite walks, trails and beaches. We will also start some adding ideas to the Your Holiday page, so please keep an eye on that. Living on the farm, Theresa and Chris are always on hand to answer any questions you might have during your stay.
